Structures, functions and chemical probes of cell cycle kinases Meeting – 13 September 2024

Join us at The School of Chemistry, University of Leeds, UK, on 13th September for a half-day, interdisciplinary meeting organized by the SPiDR project team on cell cycle kinases. The event is sponsored by the Biochemical Society.

Protein kinases such as cyclin dependent kinases and Aurora kinases are central to the regulation of the eukaryotic cell cycle. Cell cycle kinases are controlled through protein phosphorylation, protein-protein interactions and timely degradation via the ubiquitin proteasome system.

SPiDR is a BBSRC-funded research programme is centred on a network of protein-protein interactions involving the mitotic kinase Aurora-A and intrinsically disordered proteins.

Who should attend

The meeting is open to everyone and aims to bring together researchers across disciplines to discuss the regulation and function of kinases. We are especially keen to encourage early career scientists including postgraduate students and postdoctoral researchers using biochemistry and biophysics, chemical biology, structural and cell biology, and computational approaches.

Travel Bursaries

We have 10 x £40 travel bursaries available for the first ten early career researchers (post doc or PhD student) who register. Please note the £40 can only be paid to a personal account (not an institutions or company account) and you must be able to produce valid receipts.  Standard class travel only. We will contact you if you are eligible for a bursary.

Speakers

We are excited to confirm speakers Prof. Erica Golemis (Fox Chase Cancer Center, Philadelphia), Prof. Jane Endicott (Newcastle University), Prof. Eileen Kennedy (University of Georgia, Athens), Dr. Catherine Lindon (University of Cambridge), Dr. Tanya Soliman (Barts Cancer Centre, London). There will also be talks from postdoctoral researchers affiliated with the SPiDR programme. In addition, this meeting will provide an opportunity for early career researchers (incl. Postdoctoral researchers and PhD candidates) to give flash talks and participate in a poster session.

Registration

Registration is now open and is £10. Please book your slot through our online store. Mid-afternoon refreshments are included. Registration closes Friday 23 August.

Cancellations can be made up to 30 days before the meeting for a full refund. No refunds will be made within 30 days of the event. Please contact Amy Rees (a.l.rees@leeds.ac.uk) if you require a refund.
